The older waiter portrays the emptiness in his life as well as the lives of many in these words:"With all those who do not want to go to bed. With all those who need a light for the night." In these words, he explains to the younger waiter that he wants to keep the cafà © open till late night so that people who have an emptiness in their life and do not seek religion as a refuge can also come and sit here because the darkness of the world and their life haunts them as it does not possess any purpose for them.
